Nicotine subsumes basically all my other compulsive behaviors in one neat little addiction and as a bonus makes my brain function. Always a bummer when I’m reminded of this.
If you remove the whole smoking aspect of nicotine intake is the nicotine itself that bad health wise? Maybe you just mean smoking when you say nicotine and it isn't the same without the form factor. Just curious though if you have an inkling
I really mean non-smoking anyway, I smoked for 5-6 years in my twenties and quit, and mostly hate smoking now. Smokeless is _much_ less damaging but still lots of downsides. The no-go for me is elevated heart rate+blood pressure and potential for cardiovascular issues.
i’ve done extensive research bc i use nicotine patches to help manage my chronic illness, and it’s being studied for a variety of disorders bc of the immunomodulatory effect. the answer is basically “it’s fine.” unless you have specific problems
So pretty standard stimulant downsides, comparable to a coffee addict or Adderall prescription probably? And good on you for not inhaling smoke :)
Patches are the only thing I’d consider long term. I wish they weren’t so fucking expensive.
Thank you for sharing the insight!
What brand and dosage do you use Amy, if you don’t mind saying?
walmart’s equate brand isn’t bad. i get the 14mg patches and only use half each day (leave one side covered at first) so it’s like $27 a month or something
other forms, like gum, don’t work as well for the holistic benefits — that’s been studied
beat ya to it
That’s gtk! I’ll have to look for those studies. My dentist knows if I use the gum and gives me shit about it. It can cause gum recession
